Who would you hire – “Silver Spoon” or “Scrapper”?

In this thought-provoking Ted Talk, Regina Hartley, HR Director at UPS for 25 years, discusses those CVs we’ve all seen – the ones that don’t look particularly good on paper – the job-hopper or the candidate that comes across as scrappy and uneducated. Hartley challenges our view of these people who may have seen adversity and though sheer grit and determination are digging themselves out. Referencing “post-traumatic growth” and the business leaders who have shone under the most trying of circumstances (Steve Jobs as an example), Hartley urges us to look beyond the CV and get to the heart of a person’s behaviours, motivations and attitude.
